Welcome to the Green Mountain Scenic Byway Website
The Green Mountain Scenic Byway is located in the center of the state close to fast paced Orlando, but yet feels 100ís of miles away. With its rolling hills, sweeping vistas and rural charm, Green Mountain Scenic Byway is a Florida that is far removed from the hustle and bustle of theme parks, crowded roads and pricey restaurants.
The Green Mountain Scenic Byway is located in east Lake County and west Orange County in Central Florida, along the western and southern shores of Lake Apopka. Travelling from the north, the Scenic Byway begins at the intersection of Lake County Roads 455 and 561 and winds south along County Road 455 through some of the highest hills of peninsular Florida.
The Byway passes through the rural community of Ferndale and the small Town of Montverde, and bisects the scenic campus of the Montverde Academy.†
At the intersection of County Road 455, the Scenic Byway runs east on Old Highway 50 (which becomes Oakland Avenue at the Orange and Lake County Line) through the historic and scenic Town of Oakland. A short spur on Tubb Street in Oakland takes the traveler to the Oakland Town Center round-a-bout and then back to the Byway. The Scenic Byway passes beneath the historic moss covered Sadler Oaks in the community of Tildenville and ends at the intersection of Oakland Avenue and Orange County Road 545.
Cyclists and runners alike regularly visit the area to enjoy the rural country scenery of Central Florida, while challenging themselves on this winding road. This byway has become one of the most popular cycling routes in Florida as itís the perfect setting for training. While competitors come to the byway for the challenge, others come to enjoy the scenery, culture and history of the area. Itís the prefect blend for motorcyclists and car enthusiasts alike. If youíre looking for a place to stop then head east on the byway to Winter Garden where you can take in unique shops and have a bite to eat at one of their many restaurants.
