Enjoy a great day of golf while supporting the programs of the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation! The event includes a 4-person Scramble, light lunch, beverage cart and full dinner. Awards will be given in men’s and ladies’ divisions, as well as a 60+ men’s senior division. In addition, prizes will be awarded for hole-in-one, closest to pin, longest drive and longest putt contests. Every person attending the event goes home with a raffle prize! History Makers Reception honoring Bert & Barbara Roper

Several times a year WGHF honors people who made an impact on the history of the West Orange community. On May 19, we’ll be honoring Bert and Barbara Roper at a reception in City Hall, recognizing them for their years of service to this area.
All American Kids Parade and Breakfast
When: Monday, July 4, 2011, 8 am
Where: Winter Garden Masonic Lodge (230 Bay Street)
Hosted in partnership with the Winter Garden Masonic Lodge and the Downtown Merchants’ Guild, this beloved event brings families out in red, white and blue to celebrate Independence Day. Breakfast is served at the Winter Garden Masonic Lodge (230 Bay Street) from 8-10 am. Decorations are provided outside. Kids and adults adorn their bicycles, scooters, strollers and wagons, then walk or ride along Plant Street in the 10 a.m. parade.
6th Annual Music Fest
When: Friday, October 7, 5 to 10 pm,
Saturday, October 8, 12 pm to 12 am
Sunday, October 9, 12 pm to 5 pm
Where: Historic Downtown Winter Garden
The Winter Garden MusicFest is like no other. It’s a FREE three-day, outdoor music celebration held in Historic Downtown Winter Garden and showcasing Central Florida’s finest musicians in a diversity of musical styles. The festival boasts over 20 different music genres including Country, Jazz, Blues, Acoustic Classic Rock, Southern Rock, Alternative, Funk, Regas, Pop, Folk, Blue Grass, Zydeco, Classical, Opera, Musical Theater, Choral, Christian Pop, Gospel, R & B, African, Native American, Japanese, and Celtic. Many musical performances are accompanied by dance and story.
MusicFest has something for everyone: kids’ activities, arts and crafts vendors, and dozens of food and drink options. Proceeds from the event help to support Winter Garden Heritage Foundation’s important work in the community. Get more information at www.wintergardenmusicfest.com.

Show your appreciation for ONP by helping to restore this beautiful Preserve. Earn volunteer hours and learn about habitat restoration and how to tell the native plants from the invasives.
The Central Florida Herpetological Society
When: First Tuesday of every month, 7 - 9 pm
Where: ONP Education Building
Each meeting has a lecture by a visiting expert and a Q&A session. Join Society President Jim Peters and other hobbyists and experts to explore the wonder of reptiles and amphibians.
Friends of Lake Apopka (FOLA) Monthly Board Meeting
When: First Thursday of every other month, 5 pm
Where: ONP Education Building
Join the group that saved Lake Apopka! Get involved with planning future use proposals and be an advocate for the lake. Perfect for High School or College students.
“The Nature of Our Nature” Lecture Series by Clayton Louis Ferrara

Join Director of Education and Biologist in Residence for a free lecture on plants, animals, and habitats of Florida. RSVP, 407-905-0054, please. Hot tea will be served.
The Central Florida Insect Enthusiasts Meeting and Lecture
When: First Saturday of every month, 10 - 11 am
Where: ONP Education Building
Join insect scientists as they take you on a guided insect-catching tour of the Preserve. Learn how to catch, identify, preserve, and admire insects! For children and adults of all ages!
Take a Hike! With the Oakland Nature Preserve
When: Second Saturday of every month, 2 pm
Where: ONP Education Building
Join naturalist Clayton Louis Ferrara on a guided tour of the Preserve. Learn about the history of ONP and Florida. Learn how to tell a seepage spring from a sinkhole and a pine flatwoods from an oak hammock. Learn about the birds, the bees, and the animals. Gather in the visitor center before hiking the trails. Please bring water and sunglasses.
The Central Florida Turtle & Tortoise Club Monthly Meeting
When: Third Tuesday of every month, 7 - 9 pm
Where: ONP Education Building
Nothing on earth is quite like a turtle. Join the local Turtle and Tortoise club for lectures on turtle care and biology. Visit TurtleAndTortoiseClubOfFlorida.com for more info. All turtles are welcome.
Eco-Travel Lecture Series
When: Third Friday of every month, 7 - 9 pm
Where: ONP Education Building
Join Oakland Nature Preserve for a new lecture series presenting some of the most beautiful and out-of-the way places on Earth with video, pictures, and artifacts from the presenter’s trip. Beverages will be served for a donation.
Open Volunteer Day
When: Third Saturday of every month at 9 am
Where: ONP Parking Lot
Plan to come out and be a part of the continued development of this important project. Wear closed toed shoes and bring your gloves and we will put you to work.
